Viola M (Arsenault) Peterson

Viola M. Peterson, 83, of L’Anse, died peacefully, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 11, 1933 in Negaunee, a daughter of the late John and Exilda (LaJoye) Arsenault.
Viola married Ronald “Pete” E. Peterson on May 30, 1951 at St. Paul’s Church in Negaunee. They met in 1950 at Negaunee’s Vista Theater and the couple moved to L’Anse with their family in 1960.
She worked for years as a cook at local restaurants and also as a house-keeper. Viola was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Paul’s Church. Her interests included Bingo, crafting, cooking and baking, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Marjorie (David) Johnson of L’Anse and their children, David (Margaret) Jr., Damon (Jasma) and Nicole (Derek) Wirtz, Vicki Fortier of L’Anse and her children, Chris Peterson, Tony and Jolene Fortier and Ronda (Thomas Martinac) Dowd of L’Anse and her children, Michael (Laura) Lahti, Gregory and Jonah Dowd; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Austin, Scott, Randall, Jacob, Annabelle, Chelsey, Katie, Reese, Troy, Taylor, Dylan and Laura; a sister, Marge Savola; and nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 52 years and siblings, Mildred, Joyce, Priscilla, Gerald, Willis “Boy”, Leroy and 4 infant siblings.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home with Deacon John Cadeau officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour in the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery on Thursday, May 11th at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Corey Litzner Officiating. There will be a celebration of life afterwards at the home of Viola’s daughter Marjorie Johnson, after 4:00 pm. It would have been Vi's 84th Birthday!
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Baragaland Senior Center.
