Hilda E. (Sikkala) Perkins
March 29, 1933 — April 30, 2015
Hilda “Betty” E. Perkins, age 82 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Bayside Village in L’Anse.
She was born March 29, 1933 in Covington, MI daughter of Emil and Emma (Visuri) Sikkila. Hilda graduated from L’Anse High School in 1952.
Upon graduation she moved to Chicago and worked for various insurance companies but for the last 24 years worked for Fireman’s Fund Insurance, retiring in 1990. In 1990 she moved back to the family homestead in Covington and later into L’Anse.
Hilda was proud of her Finnish heritage. She loved to tell stories about of her ancestry. Hilda loved to write. She wrote short stories and poems. She had some poems published in the National Poetry Anthology 1988 Edition.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a sister-in-law. Preceding her in death are her parents and siblings, Hugo, Harold, Helen, and Helvi Sikkila.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 7th at 11:00 AM at Jacobson Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Mileski officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
