James Robert Smith

James Robert Smith went to be with Jesus on Sunday May 30, 2021. He was born in Flint on May 26, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Rose (Grgurich) Smith, and his stepfather Floyd Bond.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Annette (Payne) Smith of L’Anse along with five children, Diana (Phillip) Wilder grandchildren Ben (Nicole), Andy, Peter, and Susanna (Tony) and great grandchildren Jaxson and Raynne; Linda Jalkanen and grandchildren Sam and Amber and great grandchildren Paige, Ryan, Audrianna, Abigail, and Lillian; Jim (Kim) Smith and grandson Christopher; Karen (Tim) Timonen and grandchildren Hannah Kemppainen (Scott), Emily, Andrew, and Nathaniel; Barb (Mike) Bates and grandsons Riley and James.
Jim worked for General Motors for 10 years in Flint before moving to L’Anse where he was employed at Celotex for approximately 35 years. Outside of work his primary passion included playing the banjo and guitar to hundreds of songs which he wrote to share his Christian faith everywhere including the Aura Jamboree, local nursing homes and anyone who would listen. He also enjoyed restoring classic cars, model railroading, fishing and volunteering.
An 11:00 am service on Saturday, June 5, 2021 will be held at L’Anse Baptist Church with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Jerry Bishop will officiate. A private family burial at Evergreen Cemetery will take place later in the day. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
