Joanne Kazlauskas

October 8, 1932 — September 8, 2021

Betty Joanne was born on October 8, 1932 at Crittenden Hospital in Detroit. She was adopted at about six months of age by John and Mildred Abbott, who kept her birth name. As a child growing up she was especially fond of the work horses on her grandparents’ farm. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1950, married Louis (Junior) Petroit in 1951, and they continued farming on the family farm on Steinbach Rd in Dexter, MI. To their union, four daughters were born: Karla, Karen, Deborah, and Jill. Following a tragic accident that took Junior’s life, Joanne stayed on the farm to raise her daughters. In 1974, she married Henry Kazlauskas whom she met through her employment at the UM Dental School. They continued living on the farm and built a new house just around the corner on Trinkle Rd. She and Henry retired in 1990 and she filled her days with family, quilting, gardening, and genealogy research. She will be missed by her children - Karla Petroit of Petoskey, Karen (Gordon) Fellows of Dexter, Deborah (Kenneth) Mattson of Pelkie, Daiva Devereaux of Lansing, Siga Kazlan of Saline, and Rasa (Robert) Regan of Jupiter, FL. She also leaves grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a brother, sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, nieces, and nephews who remember her fondly. Joanne lived a full life and left us on Sept 8, 2021 at Bayside Village Nursing Center in L’Anse, MI. She will be missed by all who knew her. Cremation will take place and the family will gather for a graveside in-urnment at a later date. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
