Ray Howard Norback

Ray Howard Norback, age 73 of Covington, MI passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 7th, 2023 at U.P. Health System Marquette, MI.

He was born December 28, 1949 in Negaunee, MI son of Waino and Mildred (Pentinen) Norback. Ray grew up in Watton and graduated from L'Anse High School in 1968. From 1969-71he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Ray started working at Cleveland Cliffs in 1969 as a truck driver and worked as a logger when not at the mine. He retired from the mine in 2007. On November 6, 2012 Ray married Tawnya LaRoe at Trinity Lutheran Church in Covngton.

Ray was good at any sport he participated in. He loved golf, baseball, fishing, bowling, hunting, and pitching horseshoes. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the VFW Post 8945 in Covington.

Surviving are his wife Tawnya Norback of Covington; daughter Shannon (Scott) Gregoire of Ishpeming; grandchildren Adam (Tonia) Granroth of Laurium, David (Sarah) Granroth; great grandchildren, Emma, Journee and Beau; step-children, Travis, Amanda, Kaylee and many step grandchildren; siblings, Art (Sherry) Norback, Gerald (Jean) Norback both of Watton, MI; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents Waino and Mildred; siblings, Melvin Norback, Jeanette Lepola, and Judy Dalton.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 28th at 4:00 p.m. in the Covington Cemetery with Rev. Corey Harman officiating and Baraga County Area Veterans conducting military honors. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
